Hi Dr. P! Riya woke up with a sore throat and says it hurts to swallow. She feels warm but I don't have a thermometer handy. Should I bring her in?

Hi Deepak! Definitely bring her in. Strep has been going around at schools lately. I can see her at 11:30 today if that works? In the meantime, ibuprofen for the pain and lots of fluids.

Just finished seeing Riya. Rapid strep came back positive, so I started her on amoxicillin (250mg 3x daily for 10 days). She should start feeling better within 24 hours. Keep her home from school tomorrow. She can go back Thursday if fever-free for 24hrs. Let me know if anything changes!

That's wonderful! Yes, she can go back tomorrow since she's been fever-free for 24+ hours. Just make sure she finishes the full 10 days of amoxicillin even though she feels better. So glad she bounced back fast!
